Abstract

Abstract
Cephalometry occupies an honorable first place as a diagnostic method in orthodontic practice and is considered an integral part of orthodontic treatment planning. Currently, more than 170 methods of cephalometric analysis are known. This method is based on measuring linear and angular parameters to reference planes.
Aim: to establish the correlation and mathematical dependence of Wits number on different reference planes.
Material and methods. 3D-cephalometric analysis of 41 patients (21 male, 20 female) with one skeletal class according to Angle (diagnosis was made after the standard method of determining the ANB angle), aged 18–35 years, selected retrospectively.
Results. The conducted research established a correlational dependence (0.923, p < 0.05) between parameters of AOВO and DOP-FH when determining, according to the standard method, the value of the Wits number to FH.
Conclusions. Using the Frankfurt horizontal plane (FH) as a reference reduces the risk of obtaining erroneous data related to the rotation of the occlusal plane and, as a result, incorrectly interpreted, which may later affect the preparation of the orthodontic treatment plan.
