Methods of Restoring the Supporting Function of the Nose in Reconstructive Rhinoplastics

Abstract

According to the WHO, about 90% of the population has a deviated nasal septum to one degree or another. A person’s desire to be attractive is considered one of the main reasons for the prevalence of nose surgeries due to incorrect anatomical position, various defects, and unwanted deformations. Rhinoplasty is considered the most common operation in facial plastic surgery. The algorithm for achieving a small, thin, and sharp nose is no longer a paradigm but a given of successful surgery. The reasons that lead to the need for repeated rhinoplasty are considered primary rhinoplasty (53%), submucosal resection of the nasal septum (23%), nasal injuries (17%), and acquired nasal deformities (7%). In rhinoplasty surgery, the search for techniques that lead to a reliable, predictable, long-term result continues.
Aim: to review leading research on methods for restoring nasal support function in reconstructive rhinoplasty and to analyze the theoretical and application of various techniques in reconstructive rhinoplasty.
Material and methods. The review of leading studies was based on the identification of scientific publications on the restoration of nasal support function in reconstructive rhinoplasty in the medical research search engine, as well as in the open-access Google Scholar.
Results and discussion. The basis of reconstructive rhinoplasty is the creation of a stable nasal framework, which will be the basis for the formation of a proportional external picture. Rhinoplasty is considered the most common operation in facial plastic surgery, and secondary rhinoplasty is the pearl of rhinosurgery. Analysis of scientific works reveals numerous methods for restoring the nose’s supporting function, with surgeons holding diverse views on these approaches.
Conclusion. Despite the existence of various methods for restoring the supporting function of the nose, they have certain disadvantages that must be considered when choosing the tactics of managing a particular patient, and the search for new practical approaches and methods for its plastic surgery is very relevant.
